Basic Braille, formerly known as the Mangold Developmental Program of Tactile Perception and Braille Letter Recognition, will help beginning braille readers of all ages by providing a solid foundation on which to build future reading skills.
Rapid finger movement is fostered, and finger movements that are counterproductive are discouraged. This program will also help experienced readers who demonstrate scrubbing, backtracking, and braille letter or number reversal errors. Adults who have experienced recent vision loss will also benefit from this program.
The first fifteen lessons of this program develop tactile discrimination, proper hand position, and rapid tracking. The last fifteen lessons systematically introduce the letters of the alphabet. Each lesson includes criterion tests, braille worksheets, games, and more. The print teacher's manual includes step-by-step instructions and print replicas of each braille worksheet.
